Cricket's Three Formats and Major Tournaments

Cricket and Bangladesh have been closely connected for many years. A T20 match finishes in just a few hours, making it the most active format for betting. The situation changes with every over, so odds move quickly.

An ODI is a 50-over match, so the betting style is different. The middle phase, partnerships and powerplay are three stages where big turning points can come. Test cricket is a five-day game — match winner, draw and innings-based markets are especially popular here.

Among major tournaments, BPL is closest to Bangladeshi fans. There is also strong interest in IPL. When the ICC T20 World Cup or ODI World Cup arrives, supporters of the Tigers follow with extra enthusiasm. bigtaka offers separate markets for each of these tournaments.

Betting on Football and Other Sports

Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football at bigtaka. In football, three outcomes are possible at the end of a match — Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. This makes the odds structure in football different from cricket. In cricket (T20 and ODI), there is generally no draw, so markets are more straightforward — simply pick one of the two teams.

In football markets, under/over goals, both teams to score and handicap betting are particularly common. The cricket equivalents of these are the run line or total runs markets. Anyone who wants to bet on both cricket and football at the same time should understand the rules of both sports.

Popular Betting Markets — A Brief Guide

Cricket betting is not limited to one type of bet — you can bet in different ways across various markets. Here is an introduction to seven popular markets.

Match Winner

The simplest market — pick which team will win the match. In T20, just choose between Team A and Team B. There is no draw, so the market is straightforward.

T20 ODI

Toss

Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. Both outcomes have equal probability, so odds are generally almost the same on both sides.

Toss Pre-Match

Top Batsman

Pick which batsman from a given team will score the most runs. With multiple options, odds are generally higher. The batsman who scores the most runs for their team in the innings is the winner.

Batting Innings

Total Runs Over/Under

Bet on whether runs scored will be more (over) or less (under) than a set number. For example, in T20, "total runs over 165" — if both teams together score more than 165 runs by the end of the match, 'over' wins.

Over/Under T20

Top Bowler

Bet on which bowler will take the most wickets in the match. If two bowlers take the same number of wickets in an innings, the bowler who conceded fewer runs is generally counted as the winner.

Bowling Wickets

Multi Bet

Bet on multiple matches at the same time and multiply the odds together — that is a multi bet. For example, if three selections have decimal odds of 1.50, 1.80 and 1.90, the combined odds are 5.13 — but you must win all three.

Multi Multiple

Man of the Match

Pick in advance which player will receive the man of the match award. Usually the batsman or bowler who contributes most to the team's win receives the award, but sometimes a crucial catch or run-out can make the difference — so odds here can be the highest of all.

How to Read Odds — Three Formats

In cricket betting, odds can be written in three different ways — decimal, fractional and American. Once you understand each one, all three are easy.

Three Ways to Show the Same Price

Format Team A odds Result (if you place the bet)
Decimal 3.00 ৳1,000 bet returns ৳3,000 (profit ৳2,000 + original stake)
Fractional 2/1 ৳2 profit for every ৳1 bet — original stake returned separately
American +200 ৳200 profit on a ৳100 bet (+ sign means underdog)

All three show the same price for the same team — only the format differs. If Team A wins, a ৳1,000 bet returns ৳3,000 in total (৳2,000 profit plus the original ৳1,000). If they lose, the full ৳1,000 is gone.

Favourite Team Odds

Say Team B is the favourite. Their decimal odds are 1.80, fractional 4/5, American -125.

The American minus (-) sign means — how much you need to bet to make ৳100 profit. Here, -125 means a ৳125 bet returns ৳100 profit.

A ৳1,000 bet returns ৳1,800 — profit of ৳800.

How Odds Are Calculated in a Multi Bet

In a multi bet, if three selections have decimal odds of 1.50, 1.80 and 1.90, the combined odds are 1.50 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.13 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳513 if all three are correct. But if any one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost — that is the core risk of a multi bet.

Live In-Play Betting — Odds Change the Moment a Wicket Falls

Live Betting Active

You can place bets even after the match has started — that is in-play betting.

The special appeal of in-play betting in cricket is the ability to bet while watching the on-field situation unfold. If Team A comes out to bat and loses two wickets in the very first over, their odds of winning will drop immediately and Team B's odds will rise.

The same applies in reverse. If a batsman hits consecutive sixes, their team's chances of winning increase and the odds shorten. If the score at the end of the powerplay is ahead of the target, the chasing team's odds drop.

Odds move fastest in the last few overs — especially in the death overs. Betting at this stage carries more risk, but experienced bettors who read the situation carefully can make more considered decisions.

Keep your budget under control during in-play betting. It is worth reading the responsible gaming guidelines at bigtaka and setting your own limits.

Know This Before You Start Betting

01
Understand the format, then choose your market. Total runs and top batsman markets are more active in T20, but Test matches also have innings wickets and match draw markets. Betting on the format you follow regularly makes decisions easier.
02
Decimal odds are the simplest. To work out your total return with decimal odds, just multiply the stake by the odds. ৳1,000 × 2.50 = ৳2,500 total return. The other formats are only useful when comparing with overseas sites.
03
Keep fewer selections in a multi bet, not more. Adding more than three selections reduces the chance of all of them being correct. Multi bets are fine for entertainment, but it is not wise to place large stakes on multis.
04
Set your budget before you start. Decide how much you are willing to spend before you begin. Betting is a form of entertainment — it is not a way to earn income. If you are losing, do not place bigger bets to recover losses. More useful information is available on the FAQ page.
05
Do not rush in live betting. In-play odds change fast, so there is little time to decide. Think through a plan in advance — what you will do if a wicket falls, what you will do if a fifty is scored.

Cricket Betting FAQ

In T20, match winner, total runs and live betting are the most active markets because the game ends quickly. Every over can change the situation, so odds shift fast. In ODI, separate markets are available for the powerplay, middle overs and death overs. In Test cricket, you can also bet on a match draw, innings-by-innings markets and end-of-day scores — since it is a five-day game, the situation can change many times.

If a match is completely abandoned due to rain, all bets are generally voided and the original stake is returned. However, if a result is determined by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, that is treated as a valid result. Check the site's terms and conditions for the rules on specific markets.

Yes, if BPL and IPL are running at the same time, you can place separate bets on matches from both tournaments. You can even add a BPL market and an IPL market together in a multi bet — but you must win all three selections for the multi bet to pay out.

The toss outcome does not depend on the pitch or team strength — it is essentially a 50/50 probability, like a fair coin flip. That is why the odds for both teams to win the toss are generally between 1.90 and 1.95. The small difference is due to the site's margin.

In handicap betting, the stronger team is given a virtual runs or wickets deficit to start with. For example, if Team A receives a -20 run handicap, they must win the match by more than 20 runs for the bet to be valid. This is used to narrow the gap between two unevenly matched teams so that the odds on both sides become more balanced.
